T20 Finals Day 2017 at Edgbaston

T20 Final

We had a bit of a mixed weekend due to the weather (the Great British Summer strikes again!)

We had a truly brilliant time at the T20 Finals Day on Saturday, but failed to do the bike ride I had planned on Sunday, following the river Rea north to join the Birmingham Canal, which was a bit of a shame.

On Saturday morning, we took the train from Wythall station into Birmingham and then one of the shuttle buses that are laid on for the day to Edgbaston.

Our seats were on the Skyline Terrace and we had a perfect view of all the cricket. The people we were sitting with were all keen cricket watchers and friendly and chatty too, so there was a nice atmosphere there. Birmingham Bears beat Glamorgan by 11 runs in the first semi-final and Notts Outlaws beat Hampshire by 23 runs in the second– neither of them nail-biting finishes, but there was some entertaining batting and fielding all the same.

We also had an extremely good view of the Mascots’ Race and all the action that went on in the Hollies Stand next to us. Nearly everyone was in fancy dress and didn’t seem to stop drinking, singing and dancing all day!

Notts Outlaws won their first domestic T20 title with a 22-run victory over Birmingham Bears in the final game. Samit Patel (64 not out) thoroughly deserved his Man of the Match award.

Leaving the ground was a bit chaotic, so we gave up queuing for a shuttle bus back to the Bullring and walked to Moor Street station to get the train back to Wythall and then a final stroll to the caravan site.

Instead of cycling the next day, as the weather was so wet, cold and windy, we packed up early. This is another total joy of having the Cyclehome - it's so easy to change plans at the last minute and get on the road as soon as possible. We had an easy journey back towards South Wales and decided to go for lunch at The Old Spot Inn in Dursley, which was a very enjoyable end to the weekend – the food and beer there are thoroughly recommended.
